The 5th (and Best Ever) Annual Consulting Caption Contest

It’s that time of year again, and I really need your help.

This is the fifth anniversary of our caption contest, and with your help, it can be the best, most funnest, highest-engagement shenanigans event ever.

Here’s the drill…

Remarkably, I’ve managed to build a successful consulting firm on a foundation of chocolate references, obscure puns and a five year-old’s level of artistic ability.

You’re much smarter and wittier.

Plus, you’re here, whereas I’m on the west coast of Sicily today where I could inadvertently provoke the Cosa Nostra by penning an ill-advised caption.????

So, now’s your chance to show off your wit, charm, humor, punniness, knowledge of obscure chocolate trivia and all-around consulting awesomeness.

Below is an illustration in need of your clever (or not so clever) caption.

Add some text to the drawing above. What (if anything) are the characters saying? Does the illustration have a title?

Maybe it’s about consulting… but then again, maybe not. Let me (and your fellow readers) know in the comments below.

Your idea doesn’t have to be the funniest. Just give it a go.*

All entries into the “contest” are good.

Plus, I’ll definitely respond to your entry once I return to Connecticut.

    Title: Rowing Nowhere
    Character 1 (Man):
“Go, go, go! We promised results by Friday!”
    Character 2 (Woman):
“Wait! We haven’t even agreed on where we’re going!”
    [Caption:]
Consulting Rule #1: Direction matters more than speed. Especially in the same boat.

    Translating the same in consultant-speak:
    Title: Strategic Alignment
Character 1 (rowing hard, facing left):
“We need to move fast—leadership wants quick wins!”
Character 2 (rowing just as hard, facing right):
“Not until we get full stakeholder buy-in and a cross-functional RACI!”
    [Caption:]
When both sides are paddling hard… but the strategy deck forgot to include a shared direction.
